Care and Cleaning

Baking Steels

Before Use:

  1. Wipe with a dry paper towel to remove any dirt or debris left over from the shipping process.

How to use:

  1. Preheat your oven to 500-550°F and allow the baking steel to heat for 45 minutes.
  2. While your steel is heating, prepare your desired toppings.
  3. Shape the pizza dough and arrange the toppings accordingly.
  4. Use a pizza peel to transfer the pizza directly onto the preheated baking steel.
  5. Bake the pizza for about 9 minutes, monitoring closely to avoid overbaking, as this may result in a tough crust.
  6. (Optional) For additional browning, use a broiler or a kitchen torch.
  7. Once the pizza is baked, carefully remove it from the oven and place it onto a cutting board.
  8. Complete the pizza by adding any final touches of oil or toppings, then serve and enjoy.

After Use

  1. Allow your baking steel to cool completely before cleaning.
  2. If there’s little residue, simply wipe it clean with a paper towel, and that’s it.
  3. For tougher bits, scrape off food residue using a bench scraper or chainmail scrubber.
  4. Wipe with a damp cloth—avoid soap to preserve seasoning.
  5. Dry completely to prevent rust.

Deep Cleaning (When Needed)

  1. Use warm water and a stiff brush or chainmail scrubber to remove stubborn bits.
  2. Dry immediately to prevent rust—never soak or air-dry.
  3. For extra drying, place in a warm oven for a few minutes.

Seasoning & Maintenance (When needed, for rusting)

  1. Apply a thin layer of high smoke point oil after cleaning to maintain seasoning.
  2. Place the steel in a 450°F oven for one hour to bond the oil to the surface.
  3. Let cool completely before storing, (if not storing in the oven).
Griddle

Before First Use

Your griddle arrives pre-seasoned and ready to cook. Before first use, wipe the surface with a dry paper towel to remove any dust or debris from shipping.

After Each Use

Allow the griddle to cool slightly before cleaning.

  • Scrape away any food residue using a bench scraper or metal spatula.
  • For stubborn, burnt-on food, use a chainmail scrubber or stiff brush.
  • Wipe clean with a damp cloth if needed.
  • Dry immediately and thoroughly to prevent rust.

Important Care Notes

Your carbon steel griddle should be cared for similarly to a cast iron pan.

  • Do not soak in water.
  • Do not leave wet or allow to air-dry.
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture, which can cause rust.
  • Regular use will continue to build and strengthen the natural seasoning.

Seasoning & Maintenance

After cleaning and drying:

  1. Apply a very thin layer of a high smoke point oil across the cooking surface.
  2. Wipe away any excess oil with a paper towel.
  3. Store in a dry place or on your stovetop.

If rust develops, remove it with a scrubber, dry thoroughly, and re-season the griddle before use.

With proper care, your Stovetop Griddle will develop a naturally nonstick cooking surface and provide years of reliable cooking performance.
